Indian Adventures for Textile Lovers
Have you ever wanted to explore India and its textile and cultural treasures, but aren’t quite sure where to start? Do you enjoy a travel adventure but at the same time look for a degree of comfort and peace of mind?
We specialise in small group textile tours of South India that are tailored to give you an authentic Indian experience with like-minded textile lovers, without the hassle of independent travel.
Our tours are fully escorted by our friendly, knowledgeable and experienced team, allowing you to explore the traditional textiles and culture of this stunning part of the world knowing that we’ll be taking care of everything else.
Off the beaten track
Our tours are designed to not only give you a textile adventure to remember, but also to raise the profile of Indian handmade fabrics. By inviting you to experience the whole process of sustainable fashion and textiles in India with us, we hope to increase the value of these unique and special fabrics which will help to keep the craft alive and viable in a progressively hi-tech world. Read our story here to learn more about us.
We will take you off the beaten track to meet textile artisan communities where you’ll enjoy hands-on workshops led by local artisans that give you a great introduction to some of their precious and fast disappearing skills and give you the chance to get to know your hosts.
We’re not just about textiles though. We believe in a slow pace so you feel that you’re immersed in Indian life and not just passing through. We include time out to chill on the beach, indulge in Ayurvedic massage, take a backwaters trip, go sightseeing or browse the local markets and shops.
A taste of South India
You’ll be able to savour superb South Indian cuisine at all our destinations. Most of our meals are inclusive of the tour price so we can take you to our favourite local restaurants and you don’t have to worry about the bill, although we’ve left a few evenings free for you to choose a restaurant of your choice.
You don’t have to join the day’s tour if it’s not for you. We’ll organise another activity for you unless you want to just relax by the pool or explore independently, the choice is yours.
Sally Mason, founder of Textile Travels
Our unique tours are extensively researched by Textile Travels founder Sally Mason who is also our tours leader. Her passion for traditional handmade textiles and for the undervalued skilled artisans who make them, led her to create a tour company that would connect western textile lovers with textile artisans in India.
By leading tours to handloom villages and workshops, natural dyers and spinners, she hopes to give visitors a unique and memorable experience at the same time as highlighting the special, unique and sustainable fabrics created, thereby raising their value and the status of the artisans work.

This trip was a real adventure for me because of the variety of places we visited, activities we took part in and the people I met.
I felt safe at all times in the hands of our tour guide Sally, and was impressed by her knowledge of the people of India and the places we stayed."
From the pick up at the airport to the very end of the tour, the attention to detail was brilliant and the tour was very well planned. Sally is lovely and great to travel with.
Her knowledge in all areas textile is comprehensive and we learnt so much. Shabbaz is a great guy and his English is excellent. He was always on hand for anything we needed, translating, SIM card top ups, bank withdrawals, deciphering menus and cuisine.
These seem like minor details but they are the things that count. Nothing was too much trouble, I am very grateful for all the genuine care I was given."
